Best quote about the Ground Zero mosque ever.

"Continuing the chain of imaginary offensiveness to stereotypes, I plan to open a Babies R Us next to the gay bar next to the mosque next to Ground Zero. Next to the Babies R Us I will open a pornographic bookstore, and next to that I will open a police station. Next to the police station I will open a hip-hop recording studio, and next to that I will open an Applebees. Next to the Applebees I will open a TGI Fridays (those guys HATE each other) and next to the TGI Fridays I will open a methadone clinic. Next to the methadone clinic I will open a crack house, and finally, next to that, I will open a Catholic church adjoining a daycare center for attractive boys, adjacent to which I will just blow up whatever’s there so I can erect a memorial, and next to that memorial I will open a community center dedicated to a locally inconvenient ethnicity that I hired to blow up the original structure on the memorial site. Next to that I’m just going to put up some condos."--- Chris Mohney

  1. What a great quote. All things considered, I don't believe that a "ground zero mosque" is a reverent thing to build in that area. Islam did not cause the towers to go down in and of itself, but out of reverence to the families who lost loved ones, not shoving a by-product of perverted Islam down someone's throat is a better path to take. Just my thoughts.

  2. Thanks for your thoughts. It may not seem reverent, but I've seen no evidence that the backers of the mosque have had an air of irreverence in their decision to put it there. But I do have to say that, contrary to my tone in my previous post on this topic, I really do see how close it is based on this image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:World_Trade_Center_Site_9-23-01_with_Cordoba_House_location.jpg

Considering they want to build it in part to counter the legacy of the attacks, I'm not sure what you mean by "shoving a by-product of perverted Islam down someone's throat". Unless you mean the building would serve as an inadvertent reminder because of this current controversy.

  3. There's a Holocaust memorial right behind le Notre-Dame in Paris, a tiny garden in the shadow of the church. I used to wonder why there was a Holocaust memorial there, in that spot, since the Catholic church was silent on most of the atrocities committed against Jews during WWII. Maybe it serves as a reminder to promote peace and healing.
